Nigel is well placed to give a quality opinion and treatment to patients with haematological disorders on the basis of his extensive experience and clinical, laboratory and research credentials. Nigel is committed to bringing his philosophy of quality, efficiency and education to his private practice.

Nigel graduated from the University of Edinburgh, holding an Honours degree in Bacteriology as well as Bachelor and Doctoral degrees in Medicine. He holds fellowships of the Royal Colleges of Physicians and Pathologists of London and of the respective colleges in Australasia. As well as training positions in UK teaching hospitals, Nigel has held Research Fellow and University Lecturer positions at the University of Birmingham and also Public Teaching Hospital Specialist Haematologist positions in the UK, Australia and New Zealand.  He has recently resigned from his post as a Senior Haematologist with Auckland District Health Board, to return to his main domicile in Christchurch. Nigel has been the lead clinician of the adult bone marrow transplant programs at both Christchurch and Auckland Hospitals. Nigel is currently a Haematologist and Research Physician at the early clinical trials unit, Christchurch Clinical Studies Trust (CCST). Nigel currently serves on advisory specialist committees for the NZ Pharmaceutical agency, Pharmac and is an active member of many national and international professional medical societies.

Nigel has published over 50 major publications in peer review journals including The Lancet, Blood, The Journal of Clinical Oncology, Annals of Oncology, Bone Marrow Transplantation, Biology Of Blood And Marrow Transplantation, The British Journal Of Haematology, Leukemia and Cancer. Nigel’s experience is very broad but his major clinical and research interests have included: the diagnosis and management of Haematological Malignancy and related disorders, Bone Marrow Transplantation, management of infection in patients with compromised immune systems and the assessment and treatment of iron overload. Nigel has demonstrated a strong commitment to public hospital services and also has a keen interest in gaining access to new and innovative therapies for patients through the conduct of clinical trials.
